Powerhouse Museum Day
Sunlight spilling over the harbour, the scent of jasmine on the breeze, and the clatter of a ferry pulling into Circular Quay – these are the hallmarks of a perfect Sydney day. But what if you could bottle that energy and infuse it with a dose of pure, unadulterated curiosity? On Monday, July 20th, we’re doing just that, trading the usual office hustle for a deep dive into the city’s heart, and we want you with us. Forget the workday grind, this is Sydney on discovery mode.
What is it?
We’re closing down our laptops and hitting the streets for a Powerhouse Museum Day, and you’re invited to join the What’s In Sydney team as we explore one of the city's most iconic cultural institutions. This isn't a guided tour – think of it as a collaborative exploration. We'll be meandering through the Powerhouse's vast collections, from steam engines to contemporary design, chatting about our favourite exhibits, and generally soaking up the atmosphere. It’s an informal, self-paced delve into history, science, and the future, all under one roof. Expect conversations, discoveries, and perhaps a shared moment of awe.
Why go?
Because sometimes you need to step away from the screen and into a world of tangible wonder. The Powerhouse offers more than just exhibits; it’s a portal to Sydney’s past, present, and future, showcasing everything from Aboriginal astronomy to cutting-edge fashion. Whether you’re a history buff, a design aficionado, or just looking for an inspiring way to spend a weekday, this is for you. Imagine stumbling upon a forgotten invention, debating the merits of a groundbreaking artwork with a new friend, or simply finding a quiet corner to absorb knowledge. It’s an opportunity to connect with the city’s rich tapestry and our team, all while expanding your mind.
Need to know
The Powerhouse is ridiculously easy to reach in Paddington – jump on a bus, train, or light rail to Central Station and it’s a short walk, or if you're feeling energetic, a pleasant stroll from Darling Harbour. There's no cost to join us; just show up ready to explore. We’ll be meeting at the main entrance at 10 AM, but feel free to drop in whenever suits you. Wear comfortable shoes, pack your curiosity, and maybe a water bottle. We’re not planning a formal lunch, but there are plenty of cafes within the museum and nearby in Ultimo for fuel.
