Door Knock Whisky List

Forget the clatter of plates and the drone of the Inner West light rail; tonight, it’s all about the amber glow of a truly exceptional spirit. Picture an intimate pour, the scent of peat and vanilla hanging in the air, a blues riff softly thrumming in the distance. This isn’t just a drink, it’s an experience, a dedicated exploration of whisky, held right here in the beating heart of Newtown, under the watchful gaze of our city's iconic jacarandas.

What is it?

"Door Knock Whisky List" is a one-night-only pop-up event curated by the boozers and shakers at *What’s In Sydney*, transforming a secret Newtown locale into a temporary shrine to all things malt and grain. We’ll be showcasing a meticulously selected list of whiskies, from rare single malts to bold local distiller’s treasures, all available for tasting and discovery. Expect knowledgeable pourers, tasting notes that genuinely enlighten, and the opportunity to delve deep into the nuances of each sip. It’s an informal yet informative journey through the world of whisky, designed for both the connoisseur and the curious newcomer.

Why go?

Because this isn’t your average pub crawl – it’s a full-bodied immersion into the complex world of whisky, completely free of charge. You’ll get to sample expressions you might never encounter otherwise, perhaps a peaty Islay monster or a velvety Japanese blend, without breaking the bank. Imagine the thrill of discovering your new favourite dram, without the pressure of a full bottle purchase. This is your chance to expand your palate, impress your mates with newfound knowledge, and enjoy a sophisticated yet unpretentious evening in one of Sydney's most vibrant neighbourhoods. It's perfect for anyone who loves a good story with their drink, or those simply looking for an elevated Friday night out sans the usual bar tab shock.

Need to know

Head straight to King Street in Newtown; the exact secret venue will be unveiled on our *What’s In Sydney* Instagram stories at 4 PM on the day of the event. We recommend arriving around 6 PM to beat the initial rush and secure a good spot at the bar. While the event is free to enter, you’ll want to bring some cash or card for any special pours you might fall for (and trust us, you will). Dress smart casual – think effortlessly cool, just like Newtown itself. This is a stand-up, mingle event, so comfy shoes are a good call.
